Martin Vidal is a career diplomat with 25 years of experience in the Uruguayan Foreign Service. He was Ambassador to Canada between Sept. 2016 to Dec. 2022.

Before that he served as Director General for Political Affairs at Uruguay’s MFA in Montevideo and Deputy Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the United Nations in New York.

Since those days in NY, Martin has been deeply involved in different matters related to UN peace operations, particularly on protection of civilians, women, peace and security, the Elsie Initiative, children, peace and security, sexual exploitation and abuse, peacebuilding, among others; which is complemented with a strong sense of commitment towards regional coordination and integration.
