The aim of this course is to explore the many dynamics of conflict that affect children globally using both the thematic and case study approach. The course will discuss the effects of war on children as well as the involvement of children in the participation of war.
RED HAND DAY: Grave Violations against Children and Beyond: Trends, Emerging Threats and Pathways for Action
The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace, and Security will commemorate Red Hand Day 2025 to highlight the urgent need to address the prevention of grave violations against children by hosting a series of critical panel discussions. This two-day conference will focus on key issues affecting children in armed conflict and armed violence.
Women Leading in Building Peace and Security
To commemorate this year’s International Day of Peace, the Dallaire Institute is hosting a one-day workshop and an evening plenary session, open to the public. The workshop will focus on the vital role of women in addressing peace and security in our divided world, featuring two panels that bring together researchers and practitioners

Red Hand Day
February 12th is the International Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers, a.k.a. Red Hand Day. The Dallaire Institute’s African Centre of Excellence hosted a workshop bringing together military, police, civilian personnel and policy-makers from over 12 African countries to discuss tangible steps to advance a Children, Peace and Security Agenda and to implement the Vancouver Principles across Africa.

The Dallaire Institute commemorated #RedHandDay, the International Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers, which is marked every year on February 12th.
The event included youth voices, highlighting the importance of ending the recruitment and use of children, as well as remarks from Dallaire Institute staff and partners in Rwanda.

3rd Annual K4P Symposium: Early Warning to Early Action

In the fall of 2021, Leiden University Cleveringa professor Roméo Dallaire and world experts shared their thoughts about PTSD, children’s rights, war crimes, humanitarian law, and peacekeeping in a series of conversations about leadership and moral dilemma during times of conflict and crisis.
