A three-day regional seminar on Childhood, Peace and Security in Conflict Situations was held in Santiago de Chile on October 7 to 10, 2024 as part of the work of the Dallaire Institute through our Centre of Excellence in Latin America (LACoE) in collaboration with ALCOPAZ (Latin American Association of Peacekeeping Operations Training Centers). This hybrid event gave each Peace Operational Centre in the region the opportunity to participate in person or online.

On May 31, 2024, the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace, and Security signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Colombian Minister of Defence to establish a partnership to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed violence, and to strengthen Colombia’s commitment to peace and security through the protection of children. The signing of this MOU represented a significant milestone for the Dallaire Institute’s Latin American Centre of Excellence (LACoE) and our regional approach, which allows us to develop programs that are contextually relevant and culturally sensitive

The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security hosted a day-long workshop to spotlight the essential, yet often underrecognized role of women leaders in addressing critical peace and security challenges affecting children.

The workshop provided an in-depth exploration of the academic and technical aspects of peace and security through two panel sessions moderated by Dr. Julie Hyde, Director of Research and Knowledge Mobilization and Madeline Zutt, Policy and Advocacy Manager, both from the Dallaire Institute.

The International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers – otherwise known as Red Hand Day – is our annual reminder that children are being recruited and used in armed violence.

With months of programming, logistics, and finance meetings behind us, staff from the Dallaire Institute’s Halifax headquarters made our way to join colleagues from the United States, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Mozambique and Rwanda in Kigali for our annual symposium.

The Dallaire Institute recently released a report on the preliminary findings of a multi-phase research project with veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces exploring The Effects of Exposure to Children in Armed Conflict During Military Service.

The Dallaire Institute hosted events to mark International Women’s Day in three countries: Rwanda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
