As armed violence and conflict continues to escalate in the Upper Nile State in South Sudan, the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security calls upon all parties to the peace process in South Sudan to prioritize children’s protection as central to achieving lasting peace and security. The recent developments jeopardize the progress achieved in implementing the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and threaten national peace.

A three-day regional seminar on Childhood, Peace and Security in Conflict Situations was held in Santiago de Chile on October 7 to 10, 2024 as part of the work of the Dallaire Institute through our Centre of Excellence in Latin America (LACoE) in collaboration with ALCOPAZ (Latin American Association of Peacekeeping Operations Training Centers). On May 31, 2024, the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace, and Security signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Colombian Minister of Defence to establish a partnership to prevent the recruitment and use of children in armed violence, and to strengthen Colombia’s commitment to peace and security through the protection of children. Women Leading in Building Peace and Security Workshop

On September 17th, The Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security hosted a day-long workshop to spotlight the essential, yet often underrecognized role of women leaders in addressing critical peace and security challenges affecting children.

The workshop provided an in-depth exploration of the academic and technical aspects of peace and security through two panel sessions moderated by Dr. Julie Hyde, Director of Research and Knowledge Mobilization and Madeline Zutt, Policy and Advocacy Manager, both from the Dallaire Institute.
